Quantum of Solace

For as much as I loved Casino Royale, I never expected to type these worlds here:

But Quantum of Solace sucked!

I mean, I get it.  I get what the filmmakers were trying to do here.  It was supposed to be a filler film.  A direct sequel that wrapped up some of the loose ends from the previous film.  Something to clear the dust for the next film.  But it had no heart.  No soul.  No wit.  All things that were plentiful in the first film.

And the standard contrived plot of the standard Bond film was even more contrived in this one.  At times I barely knew what was going on.  Why did he wind up in that hotel room where he killed that guy?  Boy, it sure was lucky that he thought to ask the desk clerk for any messages so he could get that briefcase.  And wow...look at that?  He did it just at the exact moment that the dead dude's contact was gonna pick him up outside the hotel.  That all worked out well.

It seemed like the entire film was an excuse to film a chase/fight scene every 15 minutes or so.  Just a whole lot of nothing going on in between donnybrooks.  Sure there was something about a secret organization that tried to kill M.  That pissed Bond off.  And it was all maybe kinda somehow connected to Vesper's death?  I guess.  I really don't know.

Worse.  I just didn't care.

Stupid fucking title too!

Never saw it. But it never looked that good to me, either. :)

Actually almost all of that information is very cleverly explained in the movie. I enjoyed it - it wasn't as good as some of the Bond films, but better than most.

Definitely better than most! What irritated me about this one though was the editing. Royale seemd to let the action unfold without lots of jump cuts; this one has so many that, for example, in the fight that ends up with them crashing through the roof and swinging about, I had no idea who was who.
Still, it probably just underlines how excellent Casino Royale is.

i still have this on my must-see list...

i actually consider it a "standard" in bond films for me to not have a fucking clue whats going on at some point in each movie.. the plots are just so ridiculous and convulted that i always end up asking "Why the fuck is he going there now?"

Sybil - I thought it LOOKED great, it just wasn't.

Avitable - I assume so. I think I was just so bored with the pacing that I couldn't be bothered to pay attention.

badger - Casino Royale is an excellent flick. My favorite Bond film and one of the best action films around.

Slyde - I thought the previous one made sense from beginning to end. Very simple and effective plot. This one was neither. AND it was a shorter film. Go figure.

I was willing to suspend my disbelief in the normal Bondesque plot holes until the DC-3 he was flying became as agile as MaryLou Retton.

Yup, it was horrible. We wanted to love it, didn't. I LOVED Casino Royale.

Trooper - you see, I didn't have a problem with that. I had already stopped caring at that point.

Poppy - same boat.

I am a huge James Bond Fan but I prefer Roger Moore over Daniel Craig.
